Healthy diet
helps weight loss
We
all have a responsibility to ensure that we have a regular
healthy diet. So, what do we mean by “regular healthy diet”?
Eating regularly is as much a part of healthy eating as
eating the right things. Skipping meals is not a good habit
to get into. Eating snacks between meals is also not
good.
We
have all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of
the day. Yet, how many of us miss out on this important
meal? Breakfast kick starts your digestive system for the
day and gives your brain the energy to function efficiently.
People trying to lose weight often use it as an excuse to
skip breakfast. This often works against them in their quest
for the perfect diet. If you want to lose weight do not skip
breakfast. Those who skip breakfast often feel tired and
irritable.
Breakfast is also important for those trying to diet as
it gives the body sufficient nourishment to help the fight
against binge eating, snacking etcetera. All of this helps
you consume less calories throughout the
day.
We
all need to watch what we eat throughout the day and be
aware of which foods are good and which are
not.
Fruit and vegetables:
Fruit and vegetables are natural foods and are generally
very good for the body. They contain vitamins, nutrients and
fibre all of which help towards a healthy lifestyle. Fruit
and vegetables are usually best eaten in their most natural
form. Fruit should be eaten uncooked, if possible, and care
should be taken not to overcook vegetables. Overcooked
vegetables often lose much of their goodness. Fruit and
vegetables are essential to a healthy
diet.
Snacks:
A snack is usually considered to be food that
does not form part of a meal. In other words snacks are
usually what we eat between meals. Many snacks are rich in
fat and sugar and are not considered to be healthy eating.
Snacking between meals can also kill of your appetite for
your main meals and disrupt your digestive system. If you
feel the need to eat something between meals you should
have a piece of fruit. This will not introduce any extra
fat into your system and may even help with your
digestion. If you want to lose weight then skip the
between-meals snacks.
Lean meats:
When selecting meat for your meal there are plenty of
options to choose low fat products. Select lean cuts with
little or no fat. Check the fat content of minced meats to
ensure low fat content. Try turkey or chicken. Be careful
how the meat is cooked. Take smaller
portions.
Whole grain:
Whole grain is very important to
the working of the body. It is recommended that we should
all eat three helpings of whole grain each day. Wholegrain
is found in many breakfast cereals, wholewheat bread and
brown rice. Always check the ingredients of the product to
make sure that it contains whole grain. Remember whole
grain introduces fibre into your diet and will assist with
your weight loss.
Sugary drinks:
Sugary drinks are not good for the body. Some of these
drinks have an obscene amount of sugar in them. Before you
buy your next drink take a look at the label and see how
much sugar it contains. Compare the amount of sugar in the
different drinks. Sugary drinks are linked to overweight
problems and diabetes. You will not lose weight effectively
while consuming lots of sugary drinks. Consuming sugary
drinks is like drinking candy. Do not do this to
yourself!
